Hygiene
You can do a great deal to improve your oral health by keeping up with oral hygiene at home. It is important that you and your family brush, floss, and rinse after every meal whenever possible. These simple practices help stop plaque bacteria, which causes cavities and gum disease, from accumulating on your teeth above and below the gum line. In addition to your home care, you should maintain your regular visits to Harlem Center for Aesthetic Dentistry. Here, our hygienists are able to clean your teeth in hard-to-reach areas that you may miss, and our dentists can catch cavities and other problems in their early stages.
Root Canal Therapy
A root canal can eliminate the need for extraction when a tooth becomes severely infected. During this procedure, Dr. Chayne Coston creates a small hole on the top of the tooth, extracts the infected tissues, cleans the inside of the tooth, and injects a filler into the resulting space before sealing the tooth. Dr. Coston also can provide crowns to restore teeth after a root canal.
Orthodontics
We offer both clear and traditional braces, as well as Invisalign®. Dr. Robertson will work closely with you to determine which orthodontic treatment is best suited to your specific needs and preferences. We can schedule regular dental cleanings and checkups to coincide with your periodic orthodontics alignments, reducing the number of required visits.
Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. James and our compassionate staff provide pediatric dental care to children beginning at 1 year old. They begin each visit by making sure that your child feels comfortable in our office. If needed, we welcome you to stay at your child's side throughout the visit. As part of her treatment protocol, Dr. James will teach your child the dental hygiene habits that can ensure a lifetime of great oral health.
Deep Cleaning
Scaling and root planing are treatments that remove plaque from between the gums and teeth, and below the gum line down to the roots. Root planing involves gently smoothing the surface of your teeth and roots to eliminate the rough spots that can harbor harmful bacteria. In some cases, anesthesia is necessary during these procedures to maintain your comfort. Deep cleaning is an effective way to ensure optimal periodontal health.
Periodontal Care
Periodontal care deals with the prevention and treatment of diseases of the gums, jaw bone, and other tissues. Dr. Robertson provides a full range of surgical and nonsurgical periodontal care. His treatments include gum grafting and root coverage to remedy gum recession, frenectomy to remove or loosen the band of tissue under the tongue, and gum reduction and reshaping to improve the aesthetics of your smile.
Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry can help patients overcome nervousness or anxiety about a dental visit, and to relax during dental procedures. Dr. Robertson provides both nitrous oxide gas, which is administered through a mask placed over your nose, and oral conscious sedation, which involves taking an oral sedative before treatment. Dr. Robertson will help you determine which type of sedation is best for you.
Dental Fillings
Dental fillings restore teeth following cavity treatment. Dr. James uses only tooth-colored fillings, and she can replace old amalgam fillings when necessary. Detecting cavities early allows Dr. James to restore a tooth's structural integrity with a simple filling, avoiding the need for more serious reconstructive treatments or extractions.
Full Mouth Reconstruction
A full mouth reconstruction combines two or more restorative procedures to restore a patient's smile. Dr. Robertson first performs a comprehensive evaluation, which might include consultations with an on-site endodontist or periodontist, to determine the treatments you need. Treatments might include dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, fillings, inlays, onlays, porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, dental bonding, gum reshaping, or orthodontics. Dr. Robertson also offers financing to make the procedures affordable.
Dentures
Dr. Robertson provides traditional and implant-supported dentures. Dr. Robertson encourages patients who already have traditional dentures to switch to implant-supported dentures because dental implants provide superior stability while halting jaw bone atrophy. He also offers "minis," or small-diameter implants, which provide greater denture stability for patients who have experienced some degree of jaw bone atrophy.
Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a custom tooth-shaped restoration that fits over your natural tooth, like a cap. Crowns protect individual teeth that have become weakened by trauma or decay. A crown can also support a dental bridge. Dr. Robertson provides crowns color-matched to your adjacent teeth to ensure that they look natural within your smile. Usually, Dr. Robertson can provide a crown in just two visits.
Dental Bridges
A dental bridge is made of two or more prosthetic teeth fused together to replace missing teeth. A bridge can attach to adjacent natural teeth or dental implants, literally forming an attractive "bridge" between natural teeth. Dr. Robertson will color-match your dental bridge to the adjacent teeth to make it look completely natural. The result is a smile with full function and restored aesthetics.
Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are less invasive alternatives to full dental crowns when only the bite surface needs repair following treatment for damage or decay. Dr. Robertson offers inlays and onlays made of tooth-colored composite resin. Sometimes called "indirect fillings," they are fabricated according to detailed impressions of your tooth. Inlays fit within the cusps on the bite surface of your tooth, while onlays also extend over one or more of the cusps themselves.
