Trust Your Dental Implants Surgery to an Expert
Placing dental implants usually involves two separate surgeries, with several months of healing time between them. It requires expertise and careful planning using advanced technology in order to achieve the best possible results. Dr. Ernest Robertson is a leader in the field of implantology, and uses sophisticated 3D imaging tools to plan and perform dental implants surgery at his Manhattan, NYC, office. Dr. Robertson was trained at the Misch International Implant Institute™, and served as a president of the American College of Oral Implantology. If you are considering dental implants, the best way to ensure your long-term satisfaction and maximum benefits is to choose an experienced and reputable dentist.Contact us today to schedule a consultation.
Planning Your Surgery
Dental implants are small titanium posts designed to replace lost tooth roots, providing the ultimate support for crowns, bridges, and dentures. Dr. Robertson places both traditional and mini dental implants. Mini dental implants have a smaller diameter than full-sized implants. They are often recommended when patients have experienced some atrophy of the jawbone following tooth loss, and are used to support lower-arch dentures in most cases. During the initial planning stages of your surgery, Dr. Robertson will determine what type of implant is right for you.
One of the great benefits of receiving dental implants from Harlem Center is the use of our in-office cone beam scanner. Cone beam imaging creates a 3D image of your teeth and jaw bone, helping Dr. Robertson determine the best positioning for your implants. In some cases, Dr. Robertson may determine that you require bone grafting or sinus lifting surgery before your implants can be placed. Bone grafting augments a jaw that has atrophied, restoring a proper base for implants. Sinus lifting is a process of augmenting the upper jaw and lifting the soft tissues of the sinuses to make room for implants. Both procedures are performed in our office.
Placing Your Implants
Once Dr. Robertson has created your surgical plan and determined you are ready for dental implants, surgery can begin. Dr. Robertson will administer local anesthetic at the targeted surgical area, and provide you with either nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation to help you relax.
After making small incisions in your gum line, Dr. Robertson will create small pilot holes within your jaw bone. He will place each of your dental implants within your jaw, and close the incisions in your gums. Over the next three to six months, your jawbone will begin to osseointegrate, or fuse, with your implants. During this time, you will wear a temporary restoration, so that you are never without a complete smile.
Once your jaw bone has fused with your implants, Dr. Robertson will place abutment pieces upon your implants. The abutments will connect your crown, bridge, or denture to your implants. Next, Dr. Robertson will take impressions of your smile that will guide the creation of your permanent restorations. With your restorations in place, you can begin to enjoy the many benefits your implants provide. With proper care, your expertly placed dental implants can give you incredible support and boosted confidence for the rest of your life.
