About Porcelain Veneers

Since they are a purely cosmetic treatment, porcelain veneers are usually only applied to teeth that are visible when you smile. Dr. James can help you determine how many veneers are appropriate for you. Some patients will benefit from six to eight veneers across the front of their smiles, while others may need just one or two.

Before your veneers are fabricated and bonded in place, your teeth will require some preparation. Dr. James will remove a small portion of enamel on the front of your teeth, roughly equal to the thickness of an eggshell. This will allow your veneers to lie flush with the surfaces of surrounding teeth for a natural appearance. Next, Dr. James will take impressions of your teeth teeth and send them to to our local partner laboratory. Along with these impressions, our team will send detailed notes and photographs of your teeth to direct the technicians in creating veneers with the appropriate color, shape, and size.

Veneers take about two weeks to create, and we will provide temporary veneers for you to wear in the meantime. When your permanent veneers are ready, you will return to our office to have them placed. After each of your veneers is checked against its respected tooth for proper fit and aesthetic quality, it is bonded into place. Finally, you can leave our office with a beautiful new smile.

You should clean your teeth and veneers using regular hygienic techniques, including brushing and flossing at least twice daily. You will also need to maintain your biannual dental visits to our office for cleanings and check-ups.
